Life-hacks To Deal With Overwhelming Days!

Tasks, chores – big and small – take a major chunk of our attention and energy every day. It is but natural that we start feeling overwhelmed. The tragedy is when we start waking up with the only purpose of attending to chores, and not to live and enjoy another day of life.

I am often overwhelmed and lately with the tiniest of things. I have attempted certain hacks that help me most of the times to deal with the day. I am sharing the same here:

Planning:

There is a famous quote by Alan Lakein – ‘Failing to plan is planning to fail.’ I heavily rely on planning. I have set out weekends only for the purpose of planning for the coming week. Recipes to try out, the kid’s studies, my blogs – I plan for all of these. It simplifies my day to a good deal when I know which meal to prepare, which subject the kid would study and on what topic I should write upon on that particular day. For me, planning gives a solid foundation to start my day. Planning also helps me to be prepared. And as the saying goes, well-prepared is already well-begun, and well-begun is half-done!

Deliberately slowing down:

I take my own time with my tea/coffee. Be it the early hour of the morning or the evening, I linger over my cuppa at leisure, sometimes watching some comedy show on the TV, or watching some cookery show, and at times, especially when it is raining, sitting outdoors and enjoying the weather. Nothing can make me rush through my tea/coffee. Slowing down in the mornings makes me feel like I am in control of the day. That half-n-hour of the evening tea is my way of being at ease and at leisure, a quiet contentment that the first half of the day has gone by and I am ready for the second half.

Tiny Tasks:

When the chores of the day start feeling daunting, I break them into tiny tasks. For instance, I love to write stories but of late I am facing difficulties in writing. So I broke down the task into tiny compartments. I write 500 words of the story every day. While one story takes a lot of time to get published, I enjoy the process without feeling drained or obligated to write. I have applied the same hack for reading too. I read one non-fiction book (from which I take notes) and I read one fiction book (for light reading).  I read only one chapter of each book in a day. This helps me to stay focused and enjoy the book. When it comes to cleaning which I find a herculean task, I take up just one part of a room and deal with it for that day. In short, breaking tasks into tiny compartments and handling them one at a time ensures mindfulness and helps you to tackle the chore in a relaxed manner.

Taking time for leisure activities:

I ensure that there is enough time for me to watch my favorite sitcoms, to blog, to journal and basically catch up with all the activities that I love. Exercising, yoga, naps – I ensure that my day has enough space for all these.

Life will get incredibly tiring if we just keep doing chores day after day. We weren’t meant to live so. There has to be joy in our days, bliss in our minds and contentment in our hearts. Here is hoping that you find your own ways to not just get through every day but to live it fully and enjoy it as well.
